John Lennon, born 9 October 1940 in Liverpool, died (murdered) 8 december 1980 in New York City, was a British musician and composer. He was a founding member of the musical group The Beatles. He was a guitarist and keyboard player. As a composer and singer, with the Beatles and as a solo artist, he was one of rock's founders. He is well known for his collaboration with Paul McCartney. John Lennon was a major peace activist and was also influenced by feminism. He was assassinated in 1980 in New York, where he moved in 1971.
