BIRD OF THE DAY

The Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus) is a small bird of the family thrushes. It breeds in coniferous forests of North America and in the fall it moves to wintering sites in southern United States and Central America. The Hermit Thrush is very timid and cautious and stay mostly hidden except when it sings. Their breeding habitat is coniferous or mixed woods across Canada, Alaska, and the northeastern and western United States. The birds forage on the forest floor, also in trees or shrubs, mainly eating insects and berries.
