Common Sandpiper

The Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) is a migratory bird that breeds across much of Europe and Asia. It winters in Africa, South Asia and Australia.

The Common Sandpiper dwells on rocky, bushy shores, both inland and on the seacoast. The sandpiper's nest is placed on the ground.

The bird's food consists of worms, insects and insect larvae, especially dragonflies and flies, which the sandpiper picks on the beach or catch in the fly.
