Horned Grebe

The Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritus) nests in vegetated areas of freshwater lakes in Europe and Asia. The Horned Grebe also breeds in northern parts of the United States inland and in much of Canada. Most birds migrate to the coast in winter.
The Horned Grebe is an excellent swimmer and diver, and chases its prey underwater. The bird can also capture food on the water. Small fish is the main food in winter.
