Rustic Bunting

The Rustic Bunting (Emberiza rustica) is nesting in the taiga in a belt from northern Scandinavia and east to the Bering Strait. During the 1900s it has spread westward. It is a migratory bird, and an extreme long-migrant. In winter it occurs in Central Asia as well as in eastern China, Korea and Japan.
The Rustic Bunting thrives in moist forest, swampy spruce and birch forests adjacent to wetlands and streams.
Adult birds eat seeds and grain. The chicks are fed with insects.
