Julia Child, born August 15, 1912 in Pasadena, California, died August 13, 2004 in Montecito, California, was a renowned American chef and cookbook author.

Her focus was on the classic French cuisine, with great emphasis on quality and less reference to the costs.

Child also became very famous as a TV chef, and was of great importance to raise the culinary consciousness in the U.S. in 1970's and 1980's.

In the movie Julie & Julia, from 2009, Meryl Streep plays a character whose life is inspired by Julia Child.
